The following prices are the average daily prices charged by oil dealers contracted with the Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance. Mass Energy's prices differ from dealer to dealer. Contracts between Mass Energy and its thirty dealers see price variations based upon their service location and the different wholesalers pricing.
The state survey average on 10/7/08 was $3.54 with a high of $4.14 and a low of $3.01. The Mass Energy price was $3.04 for 20-30-day and $2.98 for COD or Prompt payment.

Current trend commentary: The market retreat continues. After trying to go up all day Tuesday, the last half hour of commodity futures trading saw prices slump dramatically. Early trading on Wednesday indicates the declines may continue.
Normal seasonal trend: Prices have historically risen to their season-long high levels in October.
$2.50 watch. The last day Mass Energy prices were under $2.50 was August 27, 2007. $4.00, $3.50 and $3.00 watches are already called off for Mass Energy members, although it may be resumed if the recent price bounce takes hold.
Mass Energy 07-08 performance: Mass Energy members took 8 million gallons at an average billing cost of $3.26 per gallon. The state survey average was $3.43 per gallon.
BioHeat Biodiesel product delivered to Mass Energy members cost the equivalent of the state survey average of $3.43 per gallon. So, while there aren't any appreciable cash savings, the environmental savings are significant as the product delivered by one dealer of ulta-low sulfur with a 10% bio-fuel component works out to have a lower CO2 equivalent output than natural gas.
